Nominal diameter may be defined as the dimension of the diameter (in mm) of round bar. In case of deformed bars, the nominal diameter is taken equivalent of that of a plain bar having the same mass per unit length as the deformed bar.

The reinforcing bars (referred as rebars) are generally available in the following sizes : 4 mm, 5mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 32 mm, 36 mm, 40 mm.
