Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)

Ordinary Portland Cement:-

 It  is mostly used in common Structures and also for important civil work. In India , approx 70% cement of this category. It has mainly three grades. Grade means mortar cube strength in N/mm² after 28 days. The grade of OPC are :

CEMENT

• Grade 33
• Grade 43
• Grade 53

Grade 33 means after 28 days, the standard of this type of cement with standard mortar must be 33N/mm²

The Ratio of Cement Mortar Must be 1:3.

The initial setting time of this cement should not be less then 30 min and final setting time should not be more then 10 hours.

Properties and Uses :

1. It is commonly used for R.C.C. works for various engineering works.
2. The OPC cement has moderate strength and less heat of hydration, but does not cause any defect.
3. It is mainly used in pavements.
4. This cement does not attain the strength so quickly and its setting time is also normal so it may also be called as normal setting cement.
