FORMWORK
Formwork is mould or supporting structure into which concrete is poured
until it attains sufficient strength to carry its own weight .
It should be capable of carrying all imposed dead and live loads apart
from its own weight.
Steel and timber are the materials most commonly used for formwork and
some other materials like plastics ,aluminium etc are also used.

TYPES
OF FORMWORK
v Timber formwork
v Steel formwork
v Plywood formwork
v Aluminium formwork
v Plastics formwork
STEEL FORMWORK
Steel formwork are stronger durable and
have longer life than timber formwork and their reuses are more in number.
Steel forms can be installed and dismantled
with greater ease and steel.
The quality of exposed concrete surface by using
steel forms is good and such surface need no further treatment.
Steel formwork does not absorb moisture
from concrete.
Steel formwork does not shrink or wrap.
ALUMINIUM FORMWORK
Aluminium formwork system is fast ,simple
,adaptable and very cost effective.
It is unique because it forms all of the
concrete in a building including walls, floor slabs, colums, beams, stairs etc.
It gives high dimension accuracy and smooth
finishing of concrete, which eliminates need of costly plastering.
It is light weight and easy to handle.
PLYWOOD
FORMWORK
Plywood is most common material used for facing panel. It is easily cut to
shape on can if handle and store carefully,it can be used for many times,
A standard plywood thickness on site is 18mm.This is usually support for
most pours.
However,if formwork is curved then a thinner plywood is used to
faciliyate bendind.
Thicker plywood is used when the weight of concrete bow out the standard
plywood.
REQUIRED
PROPERTY OF FORMWORK
Strong and enough to resist the
pressure or the weight of concrete
Rigid enough to retain the shape
without undue deformation.
Economical in terms of the total cost
of the form.
Sufficiently watertight to avoid
leakage at the joint.
ALUMINIUM FORMWORK
Aluminium formwork system is fast, simple, adaptable and very cost
effective.
It is unique because it forms all of the concrete in a building including
of concrete walls,floorv slabs,colums,beams,stairs etc.
It gives high dimensional accuracy and smooth finishing of concrete,
which eliminates need of costly plastering.
It is light weight and easy to handle.
TIMBER FORMWORK
Timber is a popular formwork material. It has been using from ancient age
It is light weight, easy to fix or remove. It is also economical and easy
available in different sizes.
