National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)

    National Highway Authority of India known as NHAI ia an autonomous statutory organisation which was stablished under National Highway Authority of India Act, 1988. It is working under Ministry of Road Transport & Highway (MORT&H) and is for developent, maintenance and management of National Highways in India. Its head office is situated in New Delhi. NHAI gets financial amount for project impementation from Central Road Fund (C.R.F.) and is mandate to implement National Highways Development Project (N.H.D.P).

Functions of N.H.A.I.

Following are the important functions of N.H.A.I. :
(i) To develop, maintain and manage national highways in India.
(ii) To implement National Highways Development Project sanctioned by MORT&H.
(iii) To invite tender and award projects to various highway building companies.
(iv) To handle B.O.T. (Build-Operate-Transfer) projects.
(v) To initiate construction of four laning and six laning of various highways.
(vi) To constrcuct expressway
(vii) To create fund for road development projects by levying toll tax and other taxes.
